Tom has worked in criminal defense for more than 30 years, starting as an investigator at the Metropolitan Public Defenders office in 1984. He was inspired to get into this profession by legendary Chicago criminal defense lawyer Julius Echeles. While traveling across country with his good friend Sami Echeles, they stopped in Chicago to visit her father who gave Tom a biography on Clarence Darrow along with some career advice: "t'aint easy." Hard work never deterred Tom, so he took this admonition in stride and got a job as an investigator at the public defenders office. While working there and he decided this was a good field in which to toil, so he went to the night law school at Lewis & Clark College while working as an investigator at the public defenders office and graduated law school in 1988.
After finishing law school, Tom tried another area of law, working for two yeas at LaBarre & Associates, a small civil litigation firm that represented claimants in securities fraud cases and other business litigation matters. After a couple years of civil litigation, the lure of being his own boss inspired Tom to start his own office with a focus of representing claimants in investment fraud cases, criminal defendants and some civil rights work. Within a few years, Tom began to focus his practice to criminal defense, and now, with a few exceptions, Tom's practice is primarily criminal defense. In addition, he also represents crime victims, victims of police misconduct and other individuals with serious injuries.
Tom continues practice as a sole-practitioner, dedicated to providing the highest quality legal services. He does this by giving each case and client the time and attention needed to handle the case properly and end up with the best possible result. This is the goal with every case, to determine the client's goals and get the best possible result. Tom does that by working closely with the client and utilizing a network of investigators, paralegals and other professionals. With more than 30 years experience and knowing that "t'aint easy," Tom works hard to put the case into the best possible position for a favorable resolution.
Tom has the experience, the dedication and the desire to help you. If you're looking for top quality criminal defense representation, if you're a crime victim, if you're a victim of police misconduct, if you were seriously injured, contact Tom for a consultation.
